Dr. Thomas-Garcia’s interest in integrating physical and traditional medicine led her to pursue a career in rehabilitation therapy. As a physical therapist, she finds joy in connecting with patients, creating personalized care plans, and celebrating patient progress.
She completed a bachelor's degree in science with honors from the University of Houston-Clear Lake. Dr. Thomas-Garcia graduated as a Doctor of Physical Therapy from Baylor University.
Dr. Thomas-Garcia’s passion was evident in her academic career as she received recognitions, including memberships in Phi Theta Kappa and the Omicron Delta Kappa Honor Society. She also served as a Student Government Association Representative.
“Physical therapy is not always about communicating the physical rehab side of things,” Dr. Thomas-Garcia explains. “It's also learning about the person and what they have been through. A lot of what goes into rehab itself involves a mind-body connection.”
Additionally, Dr. Thomas-Garcia enjoys working with geriatric patients. She meets the needs of patients suffering from chronic medical conditions by tailoring a care plan that fits their lifestyle and encourages progress.
“People just want to convey what they have been going through and oftentimes having someone who can listen for an hour unbiasedly makes them feel a whole lot better,” she says.
An avid reader and a member of the American Physical Therapy Association, Dr. Thomas-Garcia remains a dedicated learner. Her ongoing research allows her to provide high quality care.
In her spare time, Dr. Thomas-Garcia enjoys refurbishing furniture and is a volunteer coach for a high school recreational volleyball team. She lives in Richmond Hill with her three beagles.
