High Risk Breast Cancer Clinic


A clinic providing breast cancer screening, chemoprevention, and genetic risk evaluation for individuals at increased risk of breast cancer.

SouthCoast Health's High Risk Breast Cancer Clinic represents a multidisciplinary team of medical experts (surgeons, medical/radiation oncologists, radiologists, and genetic counselors) dedicated to breast cancer surveillance, cancer risk reduction, and patient education and advocacy.  Headed by breast & endocrine surgeon Dr. Christa Jillard, this clinic provides:

  • Patient-specific risk stratification for development of breast cancer
  • Individualized planning for oncologic surveillance
  • Assessment for need of genetic testing and counseling
  • Referral for chemoprevention as appropriate
  • Prophylactic breast surgery as indicated
  • Patient counseling in lifestyle modification and risk reduction 

Patients considered for appointment and evaluation in the High Risk Breast Cancer Clinic include the following:

  • Patients who have a first-degree relative with breast or ovarian cancer, and/or multiple relatives with breast/ovarian cancer
  • Patients with a history of:
    • breast biopsy demonstrating atypical cells or lobular carcinoma in situ
    • chest irradiation due to lymphoma
    • genetic marker predisposing to breast cancer (BRCA 1/2, TP53, STK11, PTEN mutations)
    • patients of Ashkenazi Jewish decent
    • male patients with a history of breast cancer
