SouthCoast Health primary care physician, Dr. Rebecca Marshburn Sellers discussed with the hosts of WTOC-TV’s Mid-Morning Live health tips to share with your children as they head back to school for this year. She emphasized the importance of handwashing with soap and warm water to help combat the germs shared by fellow classmates. Dr. Sellers explained how contagious conditions such as head lice and conjunctivitis (pink eye) spread quickly in school settings and encouraged parents to speak with their kids about the importance of not sharing personal items, such as brushes, hair accessories, and make-up.
Dr. Sellers reminded viewers that it may be “Fall” season, but this region stays hot the first few months that kids are back in school. Hydration is key to battling the heat and she emphasized that juice does not replace the importance of drinking water.
“Water, water, water is key when it comes to hydration prevention,” Dr. Sellers announced to the viewers. “I think water is the drink of champions!”
