In honor of National Kidney Month in March, SouthCoast Health nephrologist, Nizar S. Eskandar, M.D., FACP, CMCM spoke to WTOC about kidney disease prevention and provided tips to keep your kidneys healthy. According to the National Kidney Foundation, one in three adults are at risk for getting kidney disease and the number of people in Georgia with kidney disease issues continues to rise too.
Dr. Eskandar shared that simple prevention methods, such as a routine urine test, can catch early signs of kidney disease. Many times, patients can address these early issues with their kidneys with diet and lifestyle changes and prevent future dialysis treatment. Along with keeping up with your yearly check-ups, avoiding dehydration and taking over-the-counter medicine excessively are ways you can prevent kidney disease in your daily routine.
