SouthCoast Health, a medical leader across the Coastal Empire and Lowcountry, is excited to welcome Dr. Cody Blanchard and Dr. Akshat J. Mehta to its ever-growing roster of board-certified medical experts in our Eye Care and Cardiology departments.
Dr. Blanchard has joined the SouthCoast Health Eye Care team in Savannah. Originally from Augusta, Georgia, Dr. Blanchard’s interest in ophthalmology began in childhood while attending appointments with his grandfather, who was treated for a retinal detachment. After earning his undergraduate degree from the University of Georgia, he earned his medical degree at Mercer University School of Medicine in Savannah. He completed his ophthalmology residency at the University of Kentucky, where he served as chief resident and participated in the Global Ophthalmology Program, providing care to underserved communities locally and in Kenya. Dr. Blanchard is board eligible with the American Board of Ophthalmology and has a particular focus in glaucoma care. Dr. Blanchard is accepting new patients and you can learn more about him here.
Dr. Mehta has joined the SouthCoast Health Cardiology team in Savannah. Inspired at an early age by his father’s dedication as a pulmonary critical care physician, Dr. Mehta pursued medicine to serve his community. After graduating from the University of Georgia, Dr. Mehta earned his medical degree at Mercer University School of Medicine in Savannah. He completed his internal medicine residency and cardiology fellowship at Augusta University/Medical College of Georgia, serving as chief resident and chief fellow, before completing interventional and structural cardiology training at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. Dr. Mehta provides comprehensive, individualized cardiovascular care and values building long-term relationships with his patients.
