SouthCoast Health internal medicine physician, Dr. Keith Cobb, appeared on WSAV to encourage the community to exercise caution with the Omicron variant. He believes it will be better to err on the side of caution than to take a lax approach to the new variant.
He advised the unvaccinated to wear a mask and to be mindful of who they are socializing with and where. He stressed that hygienic measures, such as regularly washing one’s hands and wearing a mask, and vaccines are the best tools to curb the spread of Omicron and the other variants. The two vaccines can confer up to 60% protection against the new variant while an added booster can give an individual up to 90% protection.
